The New Conway, Pontcanna – Food Photography Cardiff

The New Conway in Pontcanna, Cardiff has built a reputation for innovative menus that change from week to week. The team that previously held Woods Brasserie in Cardiff Bay, now the Knife and Fork Food company, run the New Conway along with the Pilot in Penarth, The Discovery in Cyncoed as well as the Old Swan inn down at Llantwit Major.

Neil spent a good few hours talking us through their method behind their innovative creations. Days of research and allowing their chef’s the freedom to create and use their imaginations has resulted in possibly the best pub food menu anywhere in Cardiff. To be fair, this is beyond pub food, but it is Pontcanna.

We started with ‘The Conway Surf ‘n Turf’ then the grilled goat’s cheese with palma ham followed by chorizo scotch egg, a speciality and luxury of having a scottish chef! Next out was  slow roasted beef brisket, roasted celeriac and ceterae mash. Then appeared lamb rump with caper & anchovy mash burnt onions and lemon jus. At this point I needed a little fresh air to clear the meat sweats and returned to find nutmeg and red wine plums with plum sponge and port panna cotta. To say this food was incredible was an understatement. It is so reasonably priced that I’m considering mortgaging a house on Conway Road just to use this as my local, I could eat here every night!
