Bath Roman Baths Wedding Photography – Jess & Mark – Bath Photographers

-

I was excited about this wedding for months in advance. It was a late, and early evening, ceremony on the centre of Bath, at the old Roman Baths.

Jess was getting ready in a nearby hotel to the sound of gathering crowds for the town’s famous fireworks display that was about to begin. It was as she walked with mum and bridesmaids through the town centre that the sky came alive.

One of England’s most historic sites, with usage mapped back to the early days of the celts, the main buildings date from the 19th century and feature the unique both stone.

Nighttime wedding ceremonies by candlelight are either a dream or a nightmare for wedding photographers – for me it was heaven, both in the technical challenge but also in the beautiful imagery it can produce.

I was assisted through the ceremony by Jonathan from Cross-Jones Photography who shares my love of low light situations and is a master of flash and lighting.

It wasn’t until 10.55pm that we got to step out of the Roman Baths and go for a walk around Bath’s beautiful centre. Directly outside is the historic Cathedral that was floodlit from either side of the street, the perfect backdrop for some photos. Just was we walked to the centre of the square and I looked through the camera’s viewfinder the street went dark – there must have been a timer set to turn off the lights at 11pm. Luckily I had a spare speedlight on me, a Godox 850 – tiny, but on full power it was enough to light the cathedral for a few dramatic photos.

Jess and Mark are such a happy and fun couple, very laid back and a total pleasure to work with. We all stayed, dancing and chatting, until late into the night. A real evening to remember.
